Job Description

This position is based in our clients expanding Systems Technology Group located at their Torquay facility and will focus on leading the development of new fiber-optic modules and sub-systems for space applications.  You will be expected to coordinate product development and R&D projects driven by customer requirements and execute our business plan on space photonics. You will work within a multidisciplinary team of engineers to develop cutting-edge and enabling products for satellite laser communications.

Key Activities

Manage and execute complex fiber-optical product development and R&D projects
Apply photonic module design concepts to develop prototypes and new products that involve concurrent optical circuit, mechanical and electronics design.
Coordinate the development of photonic systems for space applications.
Work within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that system requirements are exceeded.
Develop strong working links with technical and business experts across G&H.
Work closely with customers both within the UK and internationally to develop proposals for and deliver products to them.

Execute demanding technical projects for delivery on time and under budget.
Deliver technical and management reviews and produce reports resulting from technical activities.

Travel expected to be <5% of the time.

Desired Skills and Experience

Excellent understanding of photonic systems engineering
Technical knowledge on module integration of fiber-optic, opto-electronic and electronic components.
Previous experience on design and development of photonic sub-systems, such as diode laser sources, optical fiber amplifiers and fibre lasers
Comfortable creating and giving technical presentations to customers and partners.
Ability to generate proposals and manage the financial and technical aspects of projects.
At least 5 years of experience in product development of photonic modules and sub-systems.
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to strongly engage customers technically and collaboratively.
Degree in Physics or Engineering with specialization in photonics required
Background in space technologies desirable
