Job Description

This position is based in our expanding Systems Technology Group located at our Torquay facility. You will lead the design and development of space electronic hardware for next generation laser-based satellite communication terminals. You will be an integral part of product development and R&D projects, driven by customer requirements and execute our business plan on space photonics. You will work within a multidisciplinary team consisting of optical, mechanical and software engineers to develop cutting-edge and enabling products for satellite laser communications.

Provide electronics and system-level engineering from concept through to manufacture and test of developed space hardware
Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and perform electronic design, analysis and test of space sub-systems for satellite laser-comms
Lead the design of electronic sub-systems including requirements analysis, sensitivity analysis, reliability analysis and parts stress analysis
Identify suitable space-qualified hi-reliability components
Perform Circuit-level design and simulation, where required
Design and analysis including EOL TID radiation degradation, SEEs, EMC, FMECA and WCA
Ensure all work is carried out to the appropriate PA plan (ESA/ECSS)
Conduct customer meetings and presentation at all project stages
Prepare presentation material and reports to a high standard for all phases of the project
Work with Business Development and Engineering teams to support tender activities and generate technical solutions for customers
Ensure seamless handover from design to production
Manufacturing support
Travel expected to be <5% of the time

Desired Skills and Experience

​Experience in space electronics design
Experience of the full design lifecycle, including taking designs from initial negotiations through requirements capture, sub-system design, hardware design and test to final integration
Experience of designing and analyzing space grade electronic systems
Mixed Signal, Digital & Analogue circuit design
Familiar with ESA/ECSS standards
Knowledge of Lab Test Equipment
Experience of working within New Product Development processes
Ability to create and give technical presentations to customers and partners
Good knowledge of assembly and test methods for space flight equipment
Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to strongly engage customers technically and collaboratively.
Ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales
Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Hands-on experience with environmental testing (vibration, thermal vacuum tests) and EMC desirable
Schematic capture and layout (PADS)
Programming (scripting) language (TCL, Python) desirable
